“Jesus is calling you to be a disciple with a mission! The Church needs you, your enthusiasm, your creativity and the joy that is so characteristic of you.” (Homily of Pope Francis during the Mass on the Occasion of the XXVIII World Youth Day) Young adults have an important place in the Church and are needed now more than ever to share their talents, enthusiasm and creativity in the church and in the world! Yet living as a young adult Catholic can be challenging without a strong peer community, frequent transitions, and sometimes a lack of opportunities provided to be involved in leadership. "Apostles on Mission reminded me that I shouldn't expect to see the conversion of every person I talk to about faith. I only need to be willing and open to the Holy Spirit to work through me. God will handle the rest!"- Apostles on Mission Spring 2016 Participant |
As disciples of Jesus Christ we are called not simply to be followers of Jesus, but imitating the Saints in every generation, to be sent on mission for God by developing a personal apostolate (how we share our faith with others through witness and concrete action). From Practicing Catholics to Apostles on Mission is a new initiative that assists young adults in recognizing the call to be active in their faith, discerning how God is calling each person to use their unique talents and gifts, and supports young adults in putting their talents and gifts into practice by creating a new evangelization start-up (apostolate), to do something new for God.
The Catholic Apostolate Center, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Washington’s Office of Young Adult Ministry, has created the initiative From Practicing Catholics to Apostles on Mission to give young adult Catholics the tools and experience needed to be evangelizers to their families, parishes, and communities.
Beginning in late-September, 2016, young adults are invited to participate in 10 sessions of on-site (online optional) Formation for the New Evangelization. The Evangelization Start-Ups program provides an exciting and supportive way for young adults to put their faith and talents into action!
